Resources
Quick command references for the assistive technology this game trains you on. The commands below are the ones that matter most for the skills you practice here: moving by headings, regions, tables, forms, and links, and reading the screen. These are taken from the official Freedom Scientific manuals.
JAWS — web navigation quick keys
On a web page, JAWS "Quick Keys" jump straight to the next item of a kind. Hold Shift with the key to go to the previous one. The keys below are the Desktop layout; in the Laptop layout the JAWS key is Caps Lock.

| Next / previous heading | H / Shift+H |

| List all headings | Insert+F6 |
| Next / previous region (landmark) | R / Shift+R |
| Next / previous link | Tab / Shift+Tab |
| List all links | Insert+F7 |
| Next / previous frame | M / Shift+M |
| Read continuously (Say All) | Insert+Down Arrow |
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Next / previous table | T / Shift+T |
| List all tables | Ctrl+Insert+T |
| Read the current cell | Ctrl+Alt+Num Pad 5 |
| Move and read by cell | Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys |
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Next / previous form field | F / Shift+F |
| List all form fields | Insert+F5 |
| Enter / exit Forms Mode | Enter / Esc |
| Next button | B |
| Next combo box / list box | C |
| Next edit box | E |
| Next check box | X |
| Next radio button | A |
| List all buttons | Ctrl+Insert+B |
In any control, press Insert+F1 for context-sensitive help on the keys that work there.
Table Layer — reading complex tables
When you are inside a table, press Insert+Spacebar, then T to turn on the Table Layer. The layer stays on until you press a key that is not a table command (such as Esc).
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Move to the cell above / below / left / right | Arrow keys |
| Say the current cell | Num Pad 5 |
| Jump to first / last cell | Ctrl+Home / Ctrl+End |
| Beginning / end of the current row | Ctrl+Left / Ctrl+Right |
| Top / bottom of the current column | Ctrl+Up / Ctrl+Down |
| Read the current row | Shift+Up Arrow |
| Read the current column | Shift+Num Pad 5 |
| Exit the Table Layer | Esc |
Reading images and PDFs — Convenient OCR & Picture Smart
When a document, PDF, or image is inaccessible (no real text or labels), JAWS can recognise it. Start each layer with Insert+Spacebar, then the letter shown, then the action key.
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Recognise the current PDF document | D |
| Recognise the selected image file (in File Explorer) | F |
| Recognise the current control | C |
| Recognise the current window | W |
| Recognise the entire screen | S |
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Describe the selected image file (in File Explorer) | F |
| Describe the current control | C |
| Describe the current window | W |
| Describe the entire screen | S |
| Describe the image in this app / context | Enter |
Add Shift to a Picture Smart command for a more detailed description.
To read one image on a web page: move to it first (press G for the next graphic), then use C for the control — C reads just that image, whereas W reads the whole window. You can also press Enter to let JAWS choose the most appropriate command.
ZoomText — magnifier & reader
ZoomText's commands use the ZoomText key as a modifier — Caps Lock by default (you can change it to Insert or Scroll Lock in Command Keys).
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Turn ZoomText on / off | Caps Lock+Ctrl+Enter |
| Show the ZoomText toolbar | Caps Lock+Ctrl+U |
| Zoom in / out | Caps Lock+Up / Caps Lock+Down |
| Zoom to 1x (toggle) | Caps Lock+Enter |
| Scroll the magnified view | Caps Lock+Shift+Arrow keys |
| Toggle colour enhancement | Caps Lock+C |
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Voice on / off | Caps Lock+Alt+Enter |
| Voice rate faster / slower | Caps Lock+Alt+Up / Down |
| Program verbosity | Caps Lock+Alt+B |
| Start AppReader at the pointer | Caps Lock+Alt+Left-Click |
| AppReader App View / Text View | Caps Lock+Alt+A / T |
| Finder — search, skim & navigate | Caps Lock+Ctrl+F |
Finder lets you search a page and jump between headings, links, and form controls — and it works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Word, and Outlook, so you are not tied to one browser.
Fusion — magnification + speech
Fusion combines ZoomText magnification with JAWS speech. Because JAWS provides the reading, all of the JAWS web quick keys above (H, R, T, F, and so on) also work in Fusion. The magnification keys below come in Desktop and Laptop layouts.
| Task | Desktop layout | Laptop layout |
|---|---|---|
| Zoom in / out | Caps Lock+Up / Down | Caps Lock+Alt+Up / Down |
| Zoom to 1x (toggle) | Caps Lock+Enter | Caps Lock+Alt+Enter |
| Enhance colours on / off | Caps Lock+C | Caps Lock+Alt+C |
| Show the user interface | Caps Lock+Ctrl+U | Caps Lock+Ctrl+Alt+U |
| Voice on / off | Insert+Spacebar, S | Insert+Spacebar, S |
| Read continuously (Say All) | Insert+Down Arrow | Caps Lock+Down Arrow |
| Say line | Insert+Up Arrow | Caps Lock+I |
| Say word | Insert+Num Pad 5 | Caps Lock+K |
Tabs, windows & bookmarks
These are browser and Windows shortcuts (they work the same with or without a screen reader). JAWS also announces the new tab or window, and can list open windows for you.
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Open a new tab | Ctrl+T |
| Next / previous tab | Ctrl+Tab / Ctrl+Shift+Tab |
| Jump to tab 1–8 / last tab | Ctrl+1–8 / Ctrl+9 |
| Close the current tab | Ctrl+W |
| Reopen the last closed tab | Ctrl+Shift+T |
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Open a new window | Ctrl+N |
| Switch between windows | Alt+Tab |
| List open windows (JAWS) | Insert+F10 |
| Task | Key |
|---|---|
| Bookmark the current page | Ctrl+D |
| Open the bookmark manager (Chrome / Edge) | Ctrl+Shift+O |
| Toggle the bookmarks bar | Ctrl+Shift+B |
How this maps to the game
- Knowledge-base lookups reward the headings list (Insert+F6) and in-page search.
- Customer-record and data-table tickets reward table navigation (T, then Ctrl+Alt+arrows).
- Form-fill tickets reward the form-fields list (Insert+F5), Tab, and dropdown navigation.
- Page-explore tickets reward jumping by region with R (or ZoomText's Finder).
- Browser Skills tickets have you open and switch tabs and windows (Ctrl+Tab, Alt+Tab) and quiz the bookmark and tab keystrokes.
The hint shown on each ticket names the fastest technique for that task.
